YouTube is well stocked with Morton Feldman lectures and interviews. This, from the Festival Nieuwe Muziek in Middelburg, in the Netherlands, in July 1987, is one of the last; Feldman died of pancreatic cancer three months later. The composer Konrad Boehmer nimbly plays Carl Reiner to Feldman’s Mel Brooks, eliciting such remarkable routines as the hilarious and absurd Steve Reich anecdote that begins around 26:20. I can find no evidence that Reich ever lived in the Dakota, although his father did reside at various Upper West Side addresses, including 37 West 72nd, which is next door to the Dakota. Reich spent his teenaged years in Larchmont, New York, probably playing no badminton. Lauren Bacall did not move into the Dakota until 1961. Nevertheless, it’s very funny.
