Maxwell Quartet on tour

Last year, I visited the singular Mendelssohn on Mull series and heard the Maxwell Quartet in its first year in residence on the isle. Tomorrow the group will be in New York, playing in Carnegie Hall’s Well-Being Concerts series. The program includes Haydn’s Quartet in D, Op. 20 No. 4 — the Maxwells have made two vibrant Haydn discs for Linn Records — alongside arrangements of Byrd’s Ave verum corpus and traditional Scottish dances. Concerts in Corrales NM (Nov. 15), San Diego (Nov. 17), and Tulsa OK (Nov. 21-23) will ensue. In January, the Maxwells will appear at the Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale.
