Distanz Books has released Die Villa Aurora: Exile, Art, and Freedom in Los Angeles, a richly illustrated commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the residency program at Lion and Marta Feuchtwanger’s home in Pacific Palisades. The villa has been closed since the fires of last January but will hopefully soon reopen, once a program of repair and cleaning is done. I contributed an essay titled “Two-Way Street: German-Speaking Émigrés in a Los Angeles Context.” Texts are in both English and German.
